Police have found the drowned body of a female college student, who had gone missing for eight days in a pond at a park, after she went for a walk.

The Haeundae Police Precinct in Busan said that they found a 21-year-old university student surnamed Mun at Daecheon Park in Jwa-dong, Haeundae District at 3:10 p.m. yesterday. The corpse was found five meters (16 feet) deep in the pond by divers.

The police said Mun was wearing the same clothes - a purple cardigan, black training pants and a pair of black Converse sneakers - she was wearing on the day she went missing and had earphones in her ears when she was found.

The police didn’t find any external injuries or scars on her body, but requested an autopsy from National Forensic Service to find the exact cause of death.

At 11:20 p.m. on April 4, Mun told her family that she would be out for about a half an hour for a walk at the park, but never came back.

Her 47-year-old mother reported her missing to the police at 2:30 a.m. on April 5. The police said Mun has made her last call to her mother at 11:50 p.m., informing her that she will be home soon.

The police identified her whereabouts near the Haeundae Office of Education in Jwa-dong by tracing her phone signal. They sent a pair of patrol units and officers on duty at 4:10 a.m. on the day she went missing, but failed to find her though they searched the area where they detected the signal.

The police continued to search but failed, leading them to form a special investigation team composed of 28 police officers yesterday morning.

“We have not ruled out the possibility that Mun was murdered,” a spokesman of the Haeundae police said.

부산 모 대학 2학년 문모(21ㆍ여)씨는 지난 4일 오후 11시50분께 주거지인 해운대구 좌동 모 아파트 인근 대천공원 주변으로 산책하러 나간다고 말하고 집을 나선 뒤 행방불명됐다. 문씨는 집을 나서기 30분 전 해운대도서관에서 공부를 마치고 귀가했었다. 문씨의 어머니(47)가 지난 5일 오전 2시30분께 해운대경찰서 중동지구대를 방문해 딸이 귀가하지 않았다고 신고했다.

경찰이 문씨의 휴대폰의 위치 추적을 하자 좌동 해운대교육지원청 일대로 확인됐다. 경찰은 28명의 수사전담반을 구성, 12일부터 공개수사에 들어가는 한편 신고보상금 500만원을 내건 미귀가자 신고전단을 제작해 주변에 배포했으나 결국 싸늘한 주검으로 돌아왔다.
